Lucky readers, are you in for a treat! We recently signed deals with two very exciting authors, for books that will be coming to booksellers near you as early as this fall. We couldn’t be more excited about our stunning eight-book contract with ’09 Rhysling Award nominee Edward Morris, who is already hinting at the possibility of more books beyond those eight in a series so stunning it will blow your mind. Imagine if Aleister Crowley had a life-changing experience and got over himself. Now imagine him penning fiction that wanders the ill-defined territory between fantasy and horror, throwing in a bit of science fiction just to keep you guessing. That’s Edward Morris in general, and his newest, There Was a Crooked Man, will be everything Morris fans have come to expect and more. We’re in editorial on this beauty already, and alternately cackling and shivering.
Speaking of Edward Morris, we’re going to go out on a limb and predict that he is one of this year’s breakout writers. He was nominated for the British Science Fiction Award in 2005 and considered for the Sidewise the same year–and we could go on and on, and generally do, but for now, you can read about Ed here and see more about this and the other forthcoming books from Mercury Retrograde here.
Also coming soon from Mercury Retrograde: Secrets of Blood and Sand, the debut novel of Leona Wisoker. Leona’s sense of the mythic goes right down to the center of the earth–um, quite possibly literally–and the world she’s crafted is at once familiar and stunningly original. We’re so glad to be working with this talented new author, whose first book is planned for March 2010, and looking forward to more books from her. Meanwhile you can read more about Leona here–and see more about Secrets of Blood and Sand, and other forthcoming Mercury Retrograde titles, here.
And if you’re into the nuts and bolts of deal announcements, you can read about these two exciting deals here.
Gotta get back to work on There Was a Crooked Man–!
